Discover the spa town of international renown. Drink the same thermal water, like many celebrities who visited this charming destination! Karlovy Vary is the most famous spa town in Western Bohemia, located about 130 km from Prague. Movies like Casino Royale (James Bond) and Last Holiday with Queen Latifah and Gerard Depardieu were filmed here. Every July, the town comes alive with the world-renowned Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and invites Czech & international actors.
Nearby town Loket will enchant you by a medieval castle, towering on a rock above the town. It features a beautifully preserved historic center surrounded by stone walls. In the Middle Ages, there was a saying which says that who will conquer Loket, will conquer the whole country, and therefore Loket was nick-named “the key to the Czech kingdom.”

Karlovy Vary and Loket are located in valleys surrounded by forests in the beautiful countryside of the Ore Mountains and belong among the quiet and less visited tourist destinations, where you can relax from the hustle and bustle of the city of Prague.
The journey will take us through the lovely countryside with a few villages, towns and fields. You will see the brewery and hops fields on the way as well as the forests and plains.
The right to brew beer was already granted to the city by Charles´s IV. father and the beer was brewed until 1953. The new Loket Brewery is owned by the original Malt House, today’s brewery, opened again in 2006. Along with the Czech meal by your choice such as roasted duck or homemade ham, you can try a traditional dark and light lager and very popular is the smoked beer.
The town itself is very magical. It took place in countless commercials, films, and series such as Genius, Casino Royale – James Bond, Joan of Arc, as well as worldwide Coca-Cola and Milka Chocolate Christmas tv spots.
Our first steps will lead to a Romanesque-Gothic castle from the 12th Century. It features an interesting exposition in the chambers, but what is most appealing is in its underground, where you may be frightened by the demonstration of medieval torture. The faint-hearted can skip this part of our tour and visit an exhibition of porcelain from the former famous local porcelain factory Epiag.
After lunch, we will tour the well-known spa town Karlovy Vary. We’ll walk through its beautiful column promenades and taste the curative springs and if desired, we can stop at the Imperial Spa, which inspired the film Hotel Budapest and which took part in the movie Casino Royale. Another optional visit is the ride with a funicular railway to the watchtower Diana. Please note that we cannot cover all the attractions in one day visit. Talk to us or your tour guide about the preferred sites so we can tailor-make the trip to your wishes.
